SUPPORT SPHINX ALUMNI SOCIETYSPHINX Funds Sphinx Council of the Sphinx Alumni Society manages or supports four different funds related to various Sphinx alumni and current student activities. All of these funds are available to be supported by anyone giving to Ohio State or The Ohio State University Alumni Association. The leadership of the Sphinx Alumni Society would be thrilled if you would consider donating to one or more of the funds. Particularly as the Alumni Society grows and evolves, we are currently encouraging consideration for the Alumni Society Support Fund. Longer term goals are to build the Sphinx Endowment and Scholarship funds. Some of you may even have a “matching gift” option from your employer, and your donation may qualify you for membership in The Ohio State University Alumni Association. If you are interested in making a donation to support Sphinx, pick the appropriate fund(s) to which you wish to contribute and select a one-time gift or a recurring monthly gift: This fund supports the programs, activities, and administrative expenses of the Sphinx Alumni Society. There are no member dues for the Alumni Society, so most of the funds raised will support alumni events and activities. ![]() This fund was set up in 1982 after the 75th anniversary celebration. The Endowment Fund provides for the maintenance and the addition of class plaques to the Sphinx Plaza, Linking Day activities for the current and immediate past class, communication costs with Tried Links, reunion activities, and support of certain current chapter activities. For example, interest funds from the endowment cover the plaques that each new Link receives, and we allocated $50,000 for a major upgrade to the Plaza with the 100th anniversary in 2007. This fund was established to provide one or more non-renewable scholarships to students who are members of Sphinx, plan to graduate from Ohio State, and plan to attend Ohio State as a graduate or graduate-professional student. Special consideration is given to students who have demonstrated leadership at the University and in Sphinx. Awards have been offered annually since 2021. See information about the recipients. This fund supports the activities of the current links, which include selections, linking, advances (Sphinx doesn’t retreat), activities involving the incoming and outgoing classes, and other Sphinx activities. ---------- Going forward, the Fundraising and Stewardship Committee will be sponsoring additional events and challenges to correspond with key Sphinx Alumni Society events, such as important reunions (5, 10, 15, etc.), plaque years, and, of course, major Reunion Years (120th Anniversary in 2027). |
